August signals the end of summer but also the start of the school year. With it many yellow school buses will be rolling on area streets. The American School Bus Council (ASBC) states there is approximately 480,000 buses on the roads carrying approximately 53% of kindergarten thru grade-12 students each day.
The summer weather often brings with it impromptu get-togethers and backyard fun. If you have a pool, or are thinking of getting one, it is especially important that you take precautions to enable you and your guests to have an enjoyable and pool-related injury free time. The CDC or Center for Diesese Control reported that from 2005-2009, on average 10 people per day with 1 in 5 being children 14 years old and under, died from accidental drowning. The CDC goes on to state that for “every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergeny department care for nonfatal submersion injuries.”

With the Fourth of July upon us we couldn’t help but feel a bit..nostalgic. Whether it’s because the holiday is a reminder of patriotism or of family times, everyone has something that they look forward to when it comes to the 4th of July. For many of us, and probably many of you, fireworks tops the list. Whether it’s watching them in your local communities or heading down to Navy Pier, seeing the sky light up in brilliant color while spending time with family and friends makes the day (and night) truly special.

In Chicago, David Axelrod and Associates saved a local industrial demolition firm by acquiring nearly $1.3 million for it from a chemical plant customer. The demolition company’s dilemma presented a number of industry specific issues. Frequently, in the demolition industry, a demolition firm will be paid the majority of its fee in the form of the scrap material that remains once the demolition is finished. Metal, equipment and various industrial tools can be sold for a substantial profit on the scrap metal market.

Catastrophic Injury
David A. Axelrod & Associates was successful in recovering two settlements on behalf of the family of a disabled child.
On August 27, 2003, the child was a passenger on a school bus that left the roadway, traveled down a steep embankment adjacent to the roadway, and rolled over. The child, who was twelve years old at the time of the bus crash, suffered permanent brain damage, paraplegia, orthopedic injuries and other multi-system injuries.
